: :News from London....: :

Gentle readers- Please forgive the absence of contact for the past couple of months; I blame the wilds of the Mediterranean... and have just arrived back in London.

Spain treated me well in a number of ways, not least of all painting. I was very busy and had a number of successes, including a small exhibition. I have some significant works on paper (primed newspaper) with me in London, and they form the core of a new series.

This has not come at the expense of the oil on linen work, some of which is in NY, some new canvasses here in London, and also work with an art dealer in LA. The de Soto gallery in downtown LA is representing my work on the West Coast, and exhibited several works in January's 'ArtLA' art fair.

About a month ago I- and a fellow artist Nisian Hughes- completed what became known as the '53:31 sitting', involving a large (8' x 8') figurative work, a naked Russian fashion designer, and a Mr Bungle record lasting 53:31 sec. In the appointed time and no more, both artists painted - nay, attacked - their respective canvas in an arte duel. For exhibition, both works plus a dvd of the session (filmed) would be shown. It is thought the music playing and the artists engaged in drawing the model on the night - offering the achieved drawings for immediate sale - would serve to further the objective of drawing the viewer into the act of image-making and art practise, giving them an insight and a reference point for the work hanging in front of them. When something is filmed, a certain fame is immediately associated. The footage is very good (plus the theatrics of a naked girl in the room never hurts publicity, either).

Best Regards,

Steve Rey…
